Beaches of
Stara Novalja.
Two contrasting beach experiences define the bay: Planjka (Trinćel) for warm shallow water and fine sand; Jadra for rock, pebbles and deeper access.

Easy water, fine sand.
On the southeast shore of Stara Novalja Bay, Planjka is covered in fine sand and is known for warm, shallow water. Visit Novalja states that it has held Blue Flag status since 2004 and recommends it especially to families with children.

Rock, depth, character.
Jadra sits near Stara Novalja and shifts between small pebbles and rocky edges. Official tourism material describes both gradual entries and sections with direct access into deeper sea, with distinct family, dog and naturist zones noted in the 2024 beach brochure.

Stara Novalja’s strongest water story is the relationship between easy bay swimming and a genuine diving culture.

Divers open and close the season.
That line comes directly from the local Tourist Board’s destination description. It matters because it gives Stara Novalja a reason to be relevant in the cooler months, when underwater visibility, training and exploration become part of the trip.
