Stara Novalja,
in context.
A bay north of Novalja where family beach life, diving, waterfront evenings and the limestone landscapes of Pag meet.

A place shaped by the bay.
Stara Novalja lies north of Novalja in a warm bay that reaches deeply into the island. The settlement follows the shoreline, so the experience is unusually linear: homes, small waterfront moments, access to the sea and a long evening walk all stay close together.
At the southeast end of the bay is Planjka (Trinćel), known for fine sand and shallow warm water. Jadra, near Stara Novalja, changes the texture with pebbles, rock and sections that drop more directly into deeper sea.
The other defining layer is underwater. Visit Novalja explicitly notes several diving clubs in Stara Novalja and describes divers as opening and closing the tourism season — an important clue to the destination’s identity beyond July and August.
Sea. Depth. Taste. Time.
A strong destination brand should not flatten Stara Novalja into “sun and beach.” These are the four themes that make the place coherent.
The bay
Planjka, Jadra and the simple daily ritual of being by the water.
DepthThe underwater world
Scuba culture and archaeological interest extend the season.
TasteThe island table
Food reads directly from the landscape: lamb, cheese, herbs, fish and wine.
TimeThe quieter months
The destination gains character when the heat and traffic recede.
